welcome
My name is Elsa M. Vazquez and I will be your Math I and II teacher. I currently hold a Florida Teacher Certification in Math 6-12 and Spanish K-12. It was a long journey since I graduated from my first Bachelor in Industrial Engineering; however my early passion was teaching so when I had my second child I obtained my second degree in Education to teach math and physics because my favorite subject was always math! Just right after this my family and I moved to America. I enrolled my two older boys in public schools and I got involved first as a volunteer for ESOL students in middle school (my oldest was one of them), and then as a substitute teacher. Simultaneously , I worked hard with the process of being certified in America. It is my tenth year working in the education field and I am pleased to work with children and contribute to their academic success.
Seventh grade mathematics is filled with a variety of topics which prepares the students for upper level math. I look forward to a year that will promote academic and social growth.
Course Description
Grade 7 focus on four critical areas: (1) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; (2) developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples. Students begin with a general review. They are introduced to adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers. Seventh grade math students work extensively on rates, proportions, percent, expressions and equations, circumference and area of circles, surface area, volume, concepts of statistics and probability.

Course Goal
- To prepare students for the Florida Standard Assessment (FSA) by covering the Mathematics Florida Standards (MFAS).
- For students to demonstrate comprehension and application of the above topics with proficiency.
- To prepare students for future Mathematics courses.
Evaluations
- Classwork - Students will be working individually and/or in groups daily.
- Project - Students will be responsible to complete one project per quarter. The project will generate multiple grades.
- Exam - Exams will be announced in advance and given on Tuesdays. A review will be given on the Monday before.
- Quiz - Quizzes will not be announced in advance and may be given in any day of the week. Usually a brief review will be given the day of the quiz.
